build un-build
Milano Design Week
2026

To mark Milan Design Week 2026, Seed and Listone Giordano invite designers, architects, students and researchers to take part in build un-build, an interactive experience that explores the contemporary meaning of building as a cultural, ethical and relational act. A preview ahead of the Seed Festival, which will take place in Perugia from 14–17 October 2026

20 - 26 April 2026
Listone Giordano Arena

The Seed Festival and artist Raffaele Salvoldi transform the Listone Giordano Arena into a constantly evolving environment: an open field of action, where construction and deconstruction become critical and operational tools. Here, the project manifests as a living process, in which form is not definitive but emerges through time, gesture and collective interaction.

Build un-build presents itself as a platform for experimentation with the generative value of building and unbuilding, where the project is conceived as an open, reversible and adaptive process. The act of building thus becomes a tool for understanding and an opportunity to examine the role of design, architecture, culture and art in redefining the relationships between the individual, matter and the environment.

Thirty minutes of the future

Thirty minutes to imagine, configure, question. Thirty minutes to give shape to a hypothesis of temporary, ephemeral architecture, in dialogue with existing structures and the actions of the other participants. Within this defined timeframe, the act of design is condensed into an exercise in synthesis, intuition and responsibility.

build un-build
The value of the process

Build un-build takes the form of a critical reflection on the ethical responsibility of design, beyond any rhetoric of sustainability. Through the language of art, architecture opens up to a dynamic process of construction and deconstruction, calling on planners, architects and designers to question their own role in the face of future challenges. The constructive archetype of the small certified oak strip becomes its metaphor: a renewable material that invites us to rethink action, time and resources. The result is an experiential device capable of transforming action into awareness and the project into a cultural act.

Raffaele Salvoldi

Raffaele Salvoldi, a former director of photography, began his artistic journey during lockdown, constructing architectural structures using Kapla wooden blocks. From 2022, he has been creating temporary installations in dialogue with historic sites, including Casa Bossi and Agliè Castle, culminating in the “Città Immaginaria”. In 2025, he founded La Città Immaginaria APS, promoting site-specific projects, including international ones.
